{"id":1458,"date":"2022-03-07T07:58:17","date_gmt":"2022-03-06T19:58:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bestir.red\/?p=1458"},"modified":"2022-07-11T20:22:13","modified_gmt":"2022-07-11T08:22:13","slug":"221-157-session-2-1-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bestir.red\/?p=1458","title":{"rendered":"221.157 &#8211; Week #2.1 Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7th March, 2022<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Digital Workflow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Importing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Adobe Lightroom OK for individuals (we use Bridge as better on shared network).<\/li><li>Use Adobe Bridge<\/li><li>Import the RAW files from the camera.<\/li><li>Import as a DNG, which is a digital negative.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corrections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Remove lens aberrations first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remove chromatic aberrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then get into editing the levels\/channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The &#8220;Basic&#8221; tools<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Develop your own workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assess the histogram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>e.g. work through the histogram and sliders in order?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Workflow (from Handout)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I borrowed this from the class notes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Camera<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Shoot in RAW files<\/li><li>Use manual settings to control exposure correctly<\/li><li>Downloading images<\/li><li>Download through Bridge<\/li><li>Convert RAW files to DNG as you download (check box)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bridge<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Use Bridge to organise and manage your files<\/li><li>Make contact sheets of the WHOLE shoot, print and put into your workbook with notes about:<ul><li>What you tried<\/li><li>What worked and what didn\u2019t<\/li><li>What you plan to try next<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Go through every shoot and mark the photos you are happier with \u2013 come up with your own system but perhaps mark photos you really like 5 stars and ones you think you like with 3 stars. This way when you come back you can easily sort them and only look at the photos you\u2019re happier with.<\/li><li>Adjust the images you are happier with in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR)<ul><li>At this stage global adjustments to get the white balance, crop\/straightening and tonal adjustments right are enough<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Once you have a smaller selection you might use the Contact Sheet function in \u2018Output\u2019 to print larger versions of some of the photos you\u2019re happier with (perhaps 4 per page) and put these into your workbook with notes discussing them.<\/li><li>Repeat the above multiple times, assessing and refining your work as you go, developing your project and how you are communicating with your photographs.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Do<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Get to know Adobe CC, initially Bridge and Camera Raw.<\/li><li>Start to develop a workflow for myself that suits how I shoot. Historically, I tend to crop for form\/shape before any retouching, but is this OK?<\/li><li>I&#8217;ve not worked with contact sheets before. How does this work?
